Pathway to Learning
Lincoln Learning Center
The renovation of the Lincoln Learning Center playground allowed architects to establish the vision of a Pathway to Learning. The journey through the playground is anchored in the mission of the Lincoln Learning Center to prepare school ready children with the foundation to succeed. Celebrating the development of a child as they grow from infant through preschool and beyond, the design of the playground is rooted in the ideas of curiosity, exploration and interaction. The variety of spaces within each play area provide age appropriate opportunities for both individual and group activities with a balance of structured and creative play. Distinct Play areas were designed for infant, toddler and preschool aged children, an interactive garden was designed for food education and connecting children with nature. Each play area shares the common design principles of integration with nature, development through play, timeless and modern design, and safety through exploration. The project site includes all playground and adjacent landscape areas on the street side of the perimeter wall/fence. Fences and defensive landscape were designed for safety of the children. Separations between play areas were designed to keep connections between children toddlers and preschoolers providing windows into the lives of those older and younger than themselves. The Lincoln Learning center aspires to embodies each of its design principles to truly instill a pathway of learning for each child that interacts with it.
