A Culinary Journey through Mexican Flavors
Frontera Cocina
Six-time James Beard Foundation award-winning Chef Rick Bayless has just opened his new Mexican fare restaurant Frontera Cocina in Disney Springs. Designed in a cracker-style Florida vernacular, Frontera Cocina is themed to be an old Florida foundry that evolved into a pottery studio and finally into a restaurant. The “original” building structure, materials and select elements of the interior are celebrated in the conversion of the building in to a contemporary Mexican restaurant with clean lines and selective use of bright colors. Fun element of the decor can be found all over the restaurant as in the colorful tequila bottles just about everywhere, including all along what’s referred to as the “Wall of Fame” in the main dining room. The modern, bright décor of his new 7,500 SF, 200-seat restaurant is a reflection of the bright flavors represented in his food. To provide additional dining space, the contemporary design includes an open roofed porch on the west side of the building cantilevering over the Springs, as well as a mezzanine prep kitchen and mechanical room to allow for more dining space on the ground floor.
