Sustainable Neighborhoods
Arizona State Veterans’ Home
With a population of over 600,000 veterans residing in Arizona, the state’s second Veteran Home is meticulously crafted to achieve LEED Silver certification. It presents a thoughtful neighborhood-oriented design encompassing four 30-bed long-term care units, strategically serving the southern region of the state.
This impressive skilled nursing facility spans 137,000 square feet and is situated in close proximity to the Southern Arizona Veterans Healthcare Center in Tucson. Comprising four individual 26,000 square foot single-story patient buildings, often referred to as “neighborhoods,” this facility accommodates a total of 30 private rooms within each of these neighborhoods. Within these neighborhoods, a trio of “households,” each containing ten patient rooms, create a nurturing environment. These households are equipped with living areas, dining spaces, engaging activity zones, cozy country kitchens, and complementary ancillary spaces.
Beyond these core components, the facility’s layout also integrates a two-story commons and administration building. This building acts as a central hub of resident amenities, housing a range of services and spaces including a central kitchen, spacious great rooms, a community gathering space, an inviting internet café, a well-stocked library, a charming gift shop, a welcoming reception area, and administrative offices.
