Alterra Brookdale Alzheimer's Residential Facilities

Four new Alzheimer’s residential facilities were designed to focus on creating a residential character. Orcutt | Winslow provided a design that would ensure an “at-home” feeling throughout the facility. The facility is broken down into “neighborhoods” with eight rooms in each. Each neighborhood has its own laundry and bathing facilities. Three neighborhoods are linked together with joining dining and refreshment areas.

The neighborhood concept breaks down the scale of this large facility and makes it appear very residential. Small corridors, eight-foot gypsum board ceilings and cove lighting help the residents feel at home, while offering them a better quality of life. Included in the facility are a variety of social areas such as living rooms, dens, library areas, outdoor courtyards, and interior patios.
